Title: A large deviation framework to analyze metastable behavior in climate systems

Speaker: Xu Yang, University of California, Santa Barbara

Time: 2:00pm-3:00pm, August 2 (Thursday)

Lecture Room: 601 Pao Yue-Kong Library

Abstract: We studied the dynamic transition/excursion phenomena in climate systems.

We built a framework using large deviation theory, in  which different climate regimes are represented by the statistical most  likely states and the transition is described by the most likelihood  pathways connecting either metastable states or target sets in the small  noise limit.
