Title:  Study of Superconductivities in Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon

Speaker: Haiqing Lin,  Beijing Computational Science Research Center

Location: Room 111, Physics Building

Time: 15:00-16:00, Wed, June 17 , 2015

Abstract:

In this talk, I will first give a brief introduction on superconductivity and some theoretical background. Then I present our studies on recent discovered polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) superconductors including alkali-metal-doped picene (C22H14), coronene (C24H12), phenanthrene (C14H10), and dibenzopentacene (C30H18), which might provide route to high Tc superconductors and give hints on novel pairing mechanisms. We carry out extensive numerical and experimental investigations on their magnetic and superconducting properties as functions of doing and pressure. Our results demonstrate that the spin polarized ground state is realized for charged molecules in the physical parameter regions and electron correlation may produce an effective attraction between electrons. We may also discuss pressure effects on superconductivity. To benefit students, I will also present some commonly used theoretical approaches to many-body physics during the talk.
