At the invitation of Professor Xiangdong Ji, Chair of Physics Department SJTU, an APS delegation comprised of Kate Kirby, APS Executive Officer, Amy Flatten, Director of International Affairs, Karsten Heeger, Chair of the Committee on International Scientific Affairs, and Gang Cao, CISA member, visited Physics Department SJTU and joined the reception of Summer School of Neutrino and Dark Matter on September 20.

Academician Jie Zhang, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, met with the APS delegation at the reception, and extended a warm welcome. President Zhang recalled the deep relationship between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and American Physical Society, and he said that the visit paid by APS was very important to reaffirm the relationship. President Zhang also expressed a wish that Physics Department of SJTU could make more contributions to Physics with the help of AP.

Professor Xiangdong Ji, Chair of Physics Department, Professor Xianfeng Chen, Executive Director of Physics Department, and other professors met the APS delegation in Physics Building. Professor Ji introduced to the delegation the history of Physics Department, faculty appointments, research interests and scientific publishing. The two parties exchanged opinions on aspects like how to attract Chinese physicians to join APS, how to improve the influence of APS journals and conferences in China, and how to enhance the loyalty of APS Fellows to APS.

American Physical Society, founded in 1899, is the second largest physics organization. It publishes more than ten physics journals and holds more than 20 academic conferences every year, boasting a great influence in Physics Society.
