Probing secret of the Nature with the LHC: Discovery of a Higgs boson; New window to the dark Universe (Faculty Candidate)

摘要

The first run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN was a great success, with the discovery of a Higgs boson that completed the standard model of particle interactions.  With the restart of a more powerful LHC in 2015, particle physics entered a new era. The LHC is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the universe such as the nature of the dark matter. This talk will cover some of the exciting physics at the LHC, in particular the discovery of the Higgs boson and a look forward of unveiling the hidden universe. 

报告人简介

Dr. Yong Yang is a postdoc with university of Zurich, working at the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. He obtained the PhD from California Institute of Technology in December 2012. During his postdoc, Dr. Yang has been focused on searching for dark matter particles in di-top quark final state at the LHC. Previously, Dr Yang focused on searching for the standard modelHiggs boson decaying to two photons, and intercalibrating the 76000-channel CMS crystal electromagnetic calorimeter using data of photon pairs from neutral pion and eta decays. He also performed the first search for excited leptons in CMS with the first early data from LHC.
